Memorial Toby King Executive DirectorToby King, the Executive Director of the United States Bone and Joint Decade/Initiative, (USBJD/USBJI) passed away December 29, 2020 in Chicago following a long battle with cancer. We want to reflect on Toby’s life and his accomplishments.
Toby grew up on the Isle of Wight, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire, England, and studied at Stowe School near Buckingham, but soon took his energies to professional associations around the world. In August 2002, Toby became the first Executive Director of the U.S. Bone and Joint Initiative (then called the U.S. Bone and Joint Decade), an international collaborative movement created to raise the priority of the musculoskeletal health among researchers, educators, clinical practitioners and patients. He was so adept at keeping all groups focused on the value of working together to achieve common goals that would in turn pay dividends to the individual organizations is not an easy task. What a wonderful partner Toby has been to all of us who have been privileged to serve in the leadership of USBJI. Toby is a such a kind and gentle man who despite his easygoing demeanor is laser focused on organizational objectives.
